Crossbridge Game Studios and Shochiku Games have unveiled Moomin: Midsummer Madness, a cozy point-and-click adventure based on Tove Jansson’s beloved 1954 novel Moominsummer Madness.
The game was revealed during Wholesome Direct with a debut trailer and is set to launch later this year for Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
A Flood Sweeps Through Moominvalley
Moomin: Midsummer Madness follows Moomintroll and Little My after a great flood overtakes Moominvalley.
Forced from their home, the Moomin family takes shelter inside a mysterious floating theatre. As Moomintroll and Little My search for a way back home, they encounter familiar faces, solve puzzles, and meet a variety of quirky characters along the way.
The game adapts key moments from Moominsummer Madness while also introducing new stories created specifically for the game.
Explore a Hand-Painted Moomin World
The adventure brings Moominvalley to life through hand-drawn visuals inspired directly by Tove Jansson’s original illustrations.
From the iconic Moominhouse to the floating theatre, the art style aims to stay faithful to the look and feel of the classic books while adding new details for players to explore.
Puzzles Designed for All Ages
Gameplay focuses on dialogue, exploration, puzzle-solving, and light mini-games.
A built-in hint system helps make the experience accessible for younger players and newcomers, while character swapping allows players to switch between Moomintroll and Little My to use their unique abilities and progress through the story.
A New Adventure for Moomin Fans
Roleff Kråkström, CEO of Moomin Characters Oy Ltd., said the game delivers a warm, family-friendly experience while offering a fresh interpretation of the Moomin universe that remains faithful to the original stories.
According to the developers, the adventure should take roughly four to six hours to complete.
