Sudden Attack Zero Point Interview – Director Kim Tae-hyun on Custom Weapons and Early Access

Sudden Attack Zero Point brings the long-running online shooter back with shorter matches, tighter maps, low-spec PC support, and a weapon customization system tied to its Black Market economy. Ahead of its July 30 Early Access launch, MonsterVine spoke with director Kim Tae-hyun about lessons learned from the original Sudden Attack, designing custom firearms, responding to community feedback, and the team’s plans for future seasons.

What lessons have you learned from developing Sudden Attack that you’ve applied to the remaster, Sudden Attack Zero Point?

Since the original was so widely loved for its low barrier to entry and short, intense play, in the remaster we compressed match length and map scale so new players could adapt quickly, and put special effort into optimization, including support for low-spec environments. Our operating approach of continuously reflecting community feedback into development also comes from our experience with the original.

What inspired the idea to implement a gun customization system?

It started from the idea that “the same weapon is used differently by each player.” In Zero Point, we prepared an experience of assembling “your own weapon” by adjusting recoil, reload speed, and even appearance at the part level. Our goal was to let a player’s taste and intended strategy show through their weapon, and we linked this to Black Market trading so that customization ties naturally into the in-game economy and progression.

How do you approach community feedback, and what specific player feedback has been most helpful to the development team?

Through the recent Steam Next Fest demo and the FCBT, community feedback served as an important milestone in development. In particular, we actively incorporated optimization-related opinions to greatly improve optimization after Steam Next Fest, and refined the most important element—the play feel—based on test feedback. The development team continuously shares its development intent and direction with players and communicates through Dev Notes, and we plan to keep improving throughout the Pre-Season (EA) period.

Sudden Attack Zero Point Roadmap

Where do you see Sudden Attack Zero Point in a year, and how do you measure success?

We envision new modes, maps, weapons, parts, and more being updated steadily each season, with the player community growing actively around customization and the Black Market. We measure success not by numbers-only metrics alone, but by how smoothly new players settle in, how steadily existing players are retained, and the real sense that the community is building the game together with us.

Is there anything you like to share for our readers?

Thank you to everyone who has loved Sudden Attack for 20 years, and to all the global players meeting it for the first time this time. Sudden Attack Zero Point aims to respect
the original while offering a direction that new players can enjoy easily. Early Access begins on July 30, so we hope you’ll experience the fast combat tempo and the fun of weapon customization that only Sudden Attack Zero Point offers.
