Though it was just announced at the end of May, we’ve now received a release date for latest entry in the Dragon Quest Monsters subseries — Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World.
You’ll be able to play the game by the end of the year, as it’s set to release for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam on December 3. The upcoming monster-collecting RPG is set in the world of Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride and features Bianca and Nera as the main protagonists, though the end of the newest video also shows that Debora — Nera’s sister and the third bridal candidate in the later releases of the main game — will also make some form of appearance.

What was the most recent Monsters game before Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World?
Prior to Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, the most recent Dragon Quest Monsters title was 2023’s Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince. It was set in the world of Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen and followed the story of the game’s primary antagonist, Psaro. We reviewed it back at launch, and described it as “a stellar RPG that anyone who enjoys monster-catching games has got to play” despite “technical issues [that] can be frustrating and surprising” in the original Nintendo Switch version.
