PAX East Coast Event in 2010

1UP is reporting that the duo behind Penny Arcade will be expanding its Expo empire with the addition of an East Coast event in 2010.

Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik said the event, set in Boston, will complement instead of replace the current PAX in Seattle. The duo mentioned that the Boston event is still in the planning stages but have been “determined to return to the city since delivering a presentation at MIT a few years ago.”

The announcement comes at a time where the gaming industry is filling a void in regards to its gaming expositions. The Electronic Entertainment Expo, once hailed as the top convention for developers and publishers, is now slammed by critics due to its poor performance since its switch to a invite-only event.

PAX, however, remains open to the public and its increasing popularity among gamers has drawn more exhibitors to the event each year. The event could face competition from Leipziger Messe, the organization behind the annual Games Convention, who recently announced plans for a US convention in addition to its current European and Asian events.
