The Playstation 3 version of Team Fortress 2 will not be recieving new content that will be coming for the PC and Xbox 360.
“They’re not doing ongoing development on The Orange Box for the PS3,”
“We don’t have PlayStation developers,”
– Valve Co-Founder, Game Newell and Valve Marketing Director, Doug Lombardi
The PC version has recieved a substantial amount of additional content such as new game modes, achievements, and weapons – all of which were free. The content has yet to be released on the Xbox 360 but Valve has stated that it will arrive as paid downloadable content as Microsoft stated so.
In addition, Gabe Newell has put down talks of a Valve created PS3 port for their upcoming zombie shooter, Left 4 Dead by stating “We don’t have the bandwidth [to do Left 4 Dead on PS3]” as the company is working on “…doing the 360 and PC version ourselves.”
While Newell stated that they were not bring Left 4 Dead to the PS3 themselves, he did not completely shoot down the possibility of a release to the Sony console…”For The Orange Box, EA did the PS3 version. They’re interested in getting a PS3 version done. We just have to figure out where the resources can come from. We don’t have the bandwidth. ”
Considering that Left 4 Dead is scheduled for a November 18th release on PC and Xbox 360, if a PS3 release does finally come around it will arrive late to the party such as the PS3 version of The Orange Box.
