The iPhone is an amazing phone that is getting a good for reputation from theirÂ
Gaming power. With stats being measured as 412MHz, CPU, a capable 3DGPU, and 138MB of RAM, though many doubt that Steve Jobs is going to commit himself to the iPhone and iPod touch, there must be at least a little area in his mind that is interested more. Since the iPod touch was marketed the “funnest iPod ever†and the ads for the two products have been focusing on the App store and the games, it really seems as if the iPhone will be a major competitor that has a lot of potential.Â
Â
According to recent statements from the Wallstreet Journal, Neil Young, a long time executive to EA (Electronic Arts Inc.) stated “here’s a real threat to their [Sony’s and Nintendo’s] business from the iPhone.” In fact, Young believes this so strongly that he quit EA earlier this year to found a gaming startup, Ngmoco Inc., dedicated to publishing games for the iPhone OS.Â
Â
Games like Super Monkey Ball have been so successful, selling over 500,000 copies, at the relatively high (for iPhone Apps) price of $10, all in 5 months. The fact that these games, super successful, and relatively cheap to free “imitations†and “me too†games have been submitted gives the iPhone a huge Advantage towards others. On November 1, Greg Joswiak, Apple’s VP of iPhone and iPod Marketing said “As a gaming devic, the iPod touch allows developers to do things they just can’t on other platformâ€. Already the App store has more than 1,500 games, which is more then the Ninendo D and Sony PSP combined.
Â
Joswiak makes a good pint, though he did not state the fact that some of these games are not quite ready to be compared with the experience of games on the DS and PSP. And indeed a lot of these games are just quick boredom games, unlike on the PSP and DS where games are more immersive and have longer development stages. Still the iPhone has many amazing games at hand, and many major developers are planning on releasing (or have released) iPhone versions of some of there games. With games taken from other consoles such as Asphalt 4, de Blob, Jelly Car, Spore, classic Namco games, and even rumored upcoming releases such as a Quack, Doom remake in rumored stages. Even better, the sims 3, and Myst are in development.
Â
Plus apple is also getting more serious with its gaming, a recent MacBook Page update is a huge indication of their new interest.
