If only I won a scholarship in games writing… Sony Online Entertainment announced the winner of their 4th annual Gamers in Real Life (G.I.R.L.) scholarship, Alicia Crawford, who will be awarded $10,000 for use towards her tuition and other educational expenses. Crawford, a student of art and design at the Inland Empire’s Art Institute of California has accepted a 10-week paid internship at Sony Online Entertainment’s headquarters in San Diego where she will work on the company’s MMO titles.
The G.I.R.L. scholarship aims to inspire more women to get involved in all aspects of video game development and encourage students to pursue careers in creative and applied arts. As part of the competition, contestants were asked to enter two original pieces of artwork inspired by the company’s MMOs FreeRealms or Everquest II and submit an essay discussing their views on women in the gaming industry to a panel of judges.
