Report: SOE Hit With Mass Layoffs, Cancels The Agency

Sony Online Entertainment, the company’s MMO oriented division, was struck with huge layoffs and three studios closed. The rumors circulated when 3D Realms founder, George Broussard, tweeted: “Word that Sony Online Entertainment Seattle is having layoffs and that studio closure is possible.”

The Agency Now Cancelled

Sony’s Seattle, Denver, and Tuscon studios are closing with Kotaku reporting that half of DC Universe Online‘s staff at SOE Austin were let go, as well as hits at the Everquest II studio in San Diego. The cuts aimed to reduce Sony Online Entertainment’s division by a third. Also, the division has cancelled the espionage online shooter, The Agency, which had yet to see a release.

Sad times, our deepest sympathies goes out to those affected.
