Kingdom Hearts III to Have No Final Fantasy Worlds

Kingdom Hearts III co-director Tai Yasue stated at E3 that the upcoming game will not feature worlds based on Final Fantasy. When asked about the possibility of featuring new worlds set in famous locations from Square Enix’s enormous RPG titan, Yasue responded:

“We’re not adding any Final Fantasy worlds. A lot of the original [to Kingdom Hearts] worlds [Hollow Bastion, Traverse Town, e.t.c.] had Final Fantasy characters in them. At this moment, we are not really coming up with any plans for that, we’re making original worlds and Disney worlds.”

Though it is exciting to speculate which new Disney and original worlds will be featured, it’s a shame that players won’t be able to explore Midgar or Spira anytime soon.

Kingdom Hearts III will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One at a currently unrevealed date. For more information, check out last year’s E3 trailer above.
