Final Fantasy VII Remake New Trailer, Combat, and Special Editions

After announcing a release date of March 3, 2020 yesterday, Square Enix brought the Final Fantasy VII Remake to its press conference with a new trailer.

The trailer shows many scenes set in Midgar, what appears to be a new motorcycle chase sequence (as Jessie is present), our first look at both Marlene and Tifa, and several combat scenes. At the press conference, they also provided an in-depth look at the new combat system, which blends action RPG combat with a command-based system.

While not purely turn-based, filling up your ATB gauges will allow you to enter Tactical Mode. Tactical Mode slows down time so you can choose special abilities and magic from the menu. You can quickly switch between characters, taking advantage of their skills.

They also announced a Deluxe Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition, and Square Enix Store-exclusive 1st Class Edition of the Final Fantasy VII Remake. The Deluxe Edition costs $79.99 and includes a hardcover art book, a minisoundtrack CD, Summon Materia DLC for Cactuar, and a Sephiroth Steelbook Case. The Digital Deluxe Edition also costs $79.99 and includes a digital art book, a digital mini-soundtrack, and Summon Materia DLC for Carbuncle and Cactuar. Finally, the 1st Class Edition costs an impressive $329.99 and includes all of the Deluxe Edition content, the Carbuncle DLC, and a Play Arts Kai Cloud Strife and Hardy Daytona box set. Finally, pre-order bonuses will include Chocobo Chick Summon Materia DLC as well as a Cloud & Sephiroth Dynamic Theme for digital pre-orders.

Final Fantasy VII Remake has been described as a full game set during the Midgar section of Final Fantasy VII. It will be released for the PS4 on March 3, 2020.
