I am happy to finally announce that RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army will release on all platforms this year with pre-orders starting today. For the uninitiated, Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army is an action RPG spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei series for the PlayStation 2. Originally teased by accident when the Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne achievement list was updated on Steam with achievements clearly indicating they were for a Raidou Kuzunoha game. Unfortunately, though a RAIDOU Remastered game is exciting news, it means that only one of the two Raidou games is being remastered and not both, like I initially thought.
Atlus is intent on making sure fans understand who Raidou Kuzunoha XIV is and what these games are, releasing a whole host of information about the game. We should dig into what Raidou Kuzunoha is and what this remaster entails for the series.
What is RAIDOU Remastered The Mystery of the Soulless Army?
RAIDOU Remastered The Mystery of the Soulless Army is a remaster of the game Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army, an action RPG spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei series. Unlike just about every other game under the Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, and now Metaphor banner, Devil Summoner/RAIDOU Remastered uses a real-time action RPG combat system. If you played the recent Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster or the original Japanese game, you may recognize Raidou Kuzunoha and his cat Gouto as the temporary antagonist and replacement for Dante from the Devil May Cry series. RAIDOU Remastered will still have demon recruitment, fusion, and uses the MAG system from older entries in the series. Originally used in the first few Shin Megami Tensei games, MAG is a resource used to keep your demons out on the battlefield. In RAIDOU Remastered, MAG is only used for using powerful skills, like a mana reserve. Using powerful attacks will require MAG and you can combine those with lower power attacks that will drain MAG from your enemies.
Raidou Kuzunoha XIV is a devil summoner and is meant to protect the capital, using his ability to summon and control demons. Working at the Narumi Detective Agency, Raidou is constantly faced with cases involving demons, he’s essentially a demon detective, a demonbuster, if you will. One day a girl approaches him and asks him to kill her, but is kidnapped before she can tell Raidou why she asked that of him. Taking on the case, Raidou gets thrown into a demon-filled mystery that consumes the entire nation of 1930’s Japan.
ATLUS has also released this World Spotlight YouTube video that explains a lot about the game.
