Cardboard Sword’s debut title The Siege and the Sandfox, finally has a release date. The stealthy 2D Metroidvania launches May 20 on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and Humble for $14.99.
Described as a “Stealthvania,” The Siege and the Sandfox puts players in the sandals of the Sandfox, a legendary desert protector who’s been framed for regicide and thrown into the dungeons beneath the city of Kariman. Blending fast-paced parkour traversal with stealth mechanics and retro pixel visuals, the game tasks you with escaping the labyrinthine depths and uncovering the true threat facing your kingdom.
Developed in Unreal Engine, The Siege and the Sandfox features hand-animated pixel art enhanced with modern lighting and normal maps, giving the game a distinctive retro-meets-modern aesthetic. Players will dodge guards, sneak past dangers, and uncover secrets hidden in the shadows—all while navigating an ancient, sand-worn underground world.
“Developing a meaningful 2D stealth game has been an ambitious undertaking,” said Cardboard Sword CEO Olly Bennett. “We’re excited to finally share it.”
