Top Hat Studios, the boutique publisher known for its love of Japanese-inspired, retro-infused indies, is joining forces with The Media Indie Exchange (The MIX) for a brand-new live showcase airing April 22. The event will stream across YouTube, Twitch, and Steam at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET / 5 PM UTC, and promises 20+ games, world premiere trailers, and a stack of new announcements.
Leading the charge is the release date reveal for Labyrinth of the Demon King, the stylish dungeon-crawling horror game that’s been climbing the Steam wishlist charts since its popular Next Fest demo back in February. If you’ve been keeping tabs on this one, the wait is almost over.
Indie Powerhouses and Fresh Faces
Alongside Labyrinth of the Demon King, the showcase will highlight new work from some of the biggest names in the Top Hat Studios family. Confirmed developers include:
- Kyle Thompson (Crypt Custodian, Islets)
- Casper Croes (Alisa)
- J.R. Hudepohl (Labyrinth of the Demon King)
- Molegato (Frogun)
- Nico Papalia (Athenian Rhapsody)
- Slime King Games (Under the Island)
That’s just a taste of what’s to come, with another 15 developers bringing unannounced titles to the stream. Expect a healthy dose of new projects, publishing reveals, and a strong showing of the kind of offbeat, heartfelt indies that have defined Top Hat’s catalog.
New Games, Bold Creators
Top Hat Studios is teasing 8 never-before-seen games for this event, keeping things exciting for returning fans and new viewers alike. As always, the publisher is leaning hard into its strengths: quirky, retro-styled, or Japanese-influenced games that don’t follow trends—they make their own.
From bizarre RPGs to lovingly crafted pixel horror and experimental platformers, the showcase is looking like a snapshot of where indie games are thriving in 2025: at the intersection of nostalgia and originality.
“This is more than a sizzle reel,” Top Hat Studios noted in a teaser. “It’s a celebration of bold creators doing what they do best—making weird, wonderful, and wildly creative games.”
