April Grove Brings a Cozy Woodcutting Adventure to Steam This Summer

The Dallas-based indie team at Colorgrave (Prodigal, Curse Crackers) is back with April Grove, a cozy, retro-inspired woodcutting adventure arriving on PC this summer. Announced today, this chill, lore-rich journey trades high-stakes combat for the meditative rhythm of axe swings, enchanted forests, and chatting up curious woodland residents.

In April Grove, you step into the boots of a rookie forester handed an axe by a divine being and dropped into a tranquil pixel-art world in need of a new woodcutter. Whether you’re in it for cozy progression or to unravel the secrets of this magical wilderness, the journey is all yours—no timers, no pressure.

Explore, Chop, and Pet (Almost) Everything

The entire game unfolds at your pace. Want to become the lumberjacking GOAT and unlock every axe upgrade? Go for it. Prefer to spend your time discovering the forest’s hidden paths, petting woodland creatures (who may or may not appreciate it), and soaking in the scenery? That works too.

And don’t worry about deforestation guilt: the forest regenerates itself thanks to its divine caretakers, meaning you’ll never run out of logs or reasons to explore.

Here’s what April Grove has in store:

  • Wield a mystical axe passed down from a forester before you and grow stronger with each chop.
  • Relax with a cozy original soundtrack as you level up and roam the forest.
  • Meet quirky citizens and uncover lore across an enchanted landscape.
  • Pet animals! (Some of them might even like it.)
  • Customize your build with food buffs, enchanted necklaces, and different axes.
  • Choose your character style—play as a guy or a girl and make the journey your own.
  • Play your way—treat it as a chill background game or dig deep into the forest’s mysteries.

A Story-Rich Chillfest from a Lore-Loving Indie Team

Colorgrave started as a book-writing group before pivoting to games, and that literary passion shows in April Grove’s worldbuilding. While there are no bosses to battle or dungeons to dive, the story and atmosphere are layered with meaning, encouraging players to take their time and soak in the quiet magic of the forest.

If Stardew Valley and A Short Hike had a lovechild with a woodcutting fetish and a deep love of jazzed-up pixel art, it’d probably look a lot like April Grove.

April Grove will be available on Steam this summer.
