Capcom Prepares Street Fighter 6 and Kunitsu-Gami for Switch 2 Launch

Capcom is leading the charge for the Nintendo Switch 2 launch with two exciting titles: Street Fighter 6 and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. Both games release on June 5, 2025, and include unique gameplay features that take full advantage of the Switch 2’s motion control capabilities. After spending time with each game, both felt fresh, fun, and well-suited to the console’s hybrid nature.

Street Fighter 6

One of the standout features of Street Fighter 6 on Switch 2 is “Gyro Battle,” a new mode that simplifies controls and introduces motion-based gameplay. Using just a single Joy-Con, you can engage in one-on-one battles by tilting and twisting the controller:

  • Tilt left/right to move your fighter
  • Tilt up/down to attack
  • Twist to unleash Super Arts
  • Face buttons handle Drive Impacts
  • Shoulder buttons manage Drive Parries

While the shift from a button-heavy scheme to motion controls felt strange at first, it quickly became intuitive. With time, I found myself stringing together combos and pulling off parries more naturally, all while working up a light sweat. Gyro Battle likely won’t replace the competitive core of Street Fighter 6, but it offers a casual, accessible experience perfect for parties or family gatherings.

Another fun addition is Calorie Contest, a fitness-inspired mode where players build up a calorie meter rather than depleting a health bar. The mode tracks your motion-based inputs—attacks and Super Arts increase your calorie count—and rewards you accordingly. In my match, I hit the 2,000-calorie mark just before the timer ran out and was rewarded with a slice of pepperoni pizza (on-screen, unfortunately). It’s a clever nod to Street Fighter‘s famously intense matches, now with a lighthearted, health-conscious twist.

The Switch 2 version of Street Fighter 6 is the “Years 1–2 Fighters Edition”, which includes all 26 characters and 20 stages released over the past two years, up to and including the upcoming addition of Elena. It’s a solid package for new and returning players alike.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Originally released in 2024 to critical acclaim, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess combines strategic planning with action combat in a unique setting. For the Switch 2 re-release, Capcom introduces new features, including a motion-control-based “Mouse Mode” and a challenging, endless survival mode called Otherworldly Venture. Both will also be available as a free update across all platforms on June 5.

The game follows Soh, a warrior defending the sacred Maiden Yoshiro from demonic enemies known as the Seethe. Each level operates on a day-night cycle:

  • Daytime is for collecting resources, purifying terrain, upgrading villagers, and setting traps.
  • Nighttime brings waves of enemies, testing your tactical defenses and combat prowess.

On Switch 2, I tested the game in handheld mode using detached Joy-Cons to enable Mouse Mode. This mode emulates a PC-style setup:

  • One Joy-Con, laid on a flat surface, functions like a mouse—controlling the camera, attacking, jumping, dodging, and locking on to enemies.
  • The other Joy-Con manages character movement and defense.
  • The two can be swapped based on your dominant hand.

Though it didn’t replace the precision of an actual mouse for me, it offered a surprisingly fluid and accessible way to play, especially on the go. I breezed through the tutorial and early missions, adapting quickly to the new control scheme.

Otherworldly Venture, the second major addition, offers an endless survival mode where you protect Yoshiro against increasingly difficult enemy waves. The mode includes three difficulty levels—Easy, Normal, and Hard, which affect how far you can progress. Each cycle mimics the core gameplay loop: prepare by day, defend by night. After each wave, I earned rewards like villager upgrades and valuable crystals. I made it through four waves before Yoshiro’s health finally ran out, but it was an addictive experience I immediately wanted to retry.

A Strong Start for Switch 2

Capcom’s efforts with both Street Fighter 6 and Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess signal a strong start for the Switch 2. Whether you’re looking for a party-friendly fighter or a methodical action-strategy hybrid, Capcom has you covered.

With new modes, motion control support, and free updates, both titles are worth revisiting—even if you’ve played them before. If this is what Capcom is bringing to the table at launch, Switch 2 owners have good reason to be excited.
