Battlefield 2042 x Mass Effect Crossover Now Live with Update 8.9.0

The future of warfare just got a lot more intergalactic. Battlefield 2042’s Update 8.9.0 has arrived, and with it comes one of the game’s most ambitious collaborations yet: a full-on Mass Effect crossover event. Running from now until July 1, the event introduces a series of limited-time Mass Effect-themed bundles, in-game progression rewards, and new Conquest Ascension gameplay features. Commander Shepard would approve.

Suit Up for the Galaxy

Players can purchase one of three new bundles themed around the Mass Effect universe:

  • Galactic Bundle (1750 BFC) – A stylish loadout for any soldier hoping to make their mark in the stars.
  • Scoped & Dropped Bundle (2000 BFC) – High-end gear designed for precision and style, whether you’re sniping or reminiscing.
  • Citadel Bundle (3000 BFC) – The complete crossover package, containing every cosmetic item introduced in the Mass Effect event.

In addition, players who participate during the event window can unlock three free cosmetics through progression, including a Legendary skin inspired by the iconic M8 Avenger Assault Rifle. It’s a great incentive for players who want that N7 aesthetic without spending a single credit.

Update 8.9.0 Weapon Balancing and Conquest Ascension

Beyond the sci-fi gear, the latest update also brings a sizable set of weapon rebalances and improvements. One of the biggest additions is the new Underloaded Magazine attachment, which trades off bullet capacity for faster handling—perfect for aggressive flanking or players who like to run hot.

The update also debuts Conquest Ascension, a variant of the main mode that emphasizes new squad spectating mechanics and tactical crawl play, encouraging a more methodical, futuristic approach to battle.

Fans of Battlefield Portal will find plenty to experiment with as well, as new game modes, including Control, Shutdown, Strike Team, and Killswitch, have been added to the rotation. The Stadium map has also been added to Custom Conquest, giving creators even more freedom to build out wild scenarios.
