Revealed during Summer Game Fest, End of Abyss is the debut title from Section 9 Interactive, a new studio formed by veterans behind Little Nightmares, Little Nightmares II, and LittleBigPlanet PS VITA. Published by Epic Games Publishing, the game is coming to PC via the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2026.
Watch the unsettling announcement trailer for End of Abyss, which introduces the game’s eerie industrial world and its protagonist, Cel—a combat technician on a mission gone terribly wrong.
Descend Into a Broken World
Set deep within a decaying underground facility, End of Abyss is a moody, atmospheric action-adventure drenched in tension. Players step into the shoes of Cel, a young technician sent to investigate strange disturbances. What begins as a routine mission quickly descends into a nightmare filled with cryptic machines, dangerous ruins, and twisted abominations that barely resemble anything human.
Exploration, environmental storytelling, and cinematic visuals lie at the core of the experience. If you’re a fan of Little Nightmares’ haunting tone but crave more combat and progression, this may be one to watch.
Core Features
- Explore the Depths – Navigate a sprawling underground complex full of decayed machines and forgotten technology. As you explore, you’ll piece together the story of what happened—and what still lurks within the shadows.
- Survive the Abyss – Cel is outmatched and under-equipped, but through scavenging, upgrading, and adapting, players will face the growing horrors of the abyss and survive long enough to uncover the truth.
- Nonlinear Exploration – With branching paths and metroidvania-style progression, End of Abyss encourages backtracking and secret-hunting. New tools unlock hidden rooms, lost data, and upgrades vital to survival.
- Tense Combat Encounters – Encounters are deadly and demand preparation. Enemy designs evoke dread, and players will need to push Cel’s capabilities—and their own reflexes—to survive.
Section 9 Interactive describes End of Abyss as an atmospheric blend of sci-fi mystery and survival-action, driven by their goal of making “visually compelling worlds that players want to explore.”
From the Minds Behind Little Nightmares
While End of Abyss may be a new IP, the minds behind it are no strangers to stylish and unsettling storytelling. Section 9 Interactive was founded by developers who helped bring Little Nightmares and LittleBigPlanet to life, and their new project brings that same visual creativity to a more action-focused format.
Players can wishlist End of Abyss today on all major platforms, with the full release set for 2026.
