Leave it to Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture to steal the spotlight with something wildly unhinged. Revealed during today’s PlayStation State of Play, Romeo Is a Dead Man is an ultra-violent, blood-soaked action game starring a dimension-hopping space-time agent who’s both alive and dead. It marks Grasshopper’s first new IP since Travis Strikes Again and is scheduled to launch in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Windows).
Bloody Action Dialed Up to 11
The studio is calling this their “bloody action” masterpiece, and if the trailer is any indication, they’re not kidding. The game stars Romeo Stargazer, an FBI Space-Time Special Agent who, five seconds from death, becomes “Dead Man”—a being caught between life and death, hunting the universe’s most dangerous fugitives across warped dimensions.
Swapping between guns and swords in high-octane battles, Romeo will turn enemies into a red mist with hyper-violent combos, all while rocking a slick mask and his unique “Dead Gear” outfit. The gameplay promises clever level design, absurd twists, and the signature surrealism you’d expect from the creator of No More Heroes, killer7, and Shadows of the Damned.
A Sci-Fi Story That’s Pure Suda51
Of course, this wouldn’t be a Suda51 game without a touch of madness. Romeo Is a Dead Man isn’t just about shooting space criminals—Romeo’s journey is also tied to the disappearance of his girlfriend, Juliet. (Yes, that Juliet.) What follows is described as a brain-melting ride through multiple universes, time paradoxes, and dimension-spanning conspiracies.
In Suda’s own words, the game is:
“Super bloody action, crazy twists and turns to blow players’ minds, and a mess of old-school gimmicks—all rolled into one wild ride.”
There’s no final abbreviation yet (Suda suggests “RomeDead”, “RomeMan”, or even “IsA”), but whatever you call it, it’s classic Grasshopper chaos.
Launching in 2026 (Probably)
While Romeo Is a Dead Man doesn’t have a hard release date yet, Grasshopper is aiming for 2026, just not on the same day as That One Game, as Suda jokingly notes. Until then, the team is hard at work finalizing what might be one of their most ambitious games yet.
Stay tuned to the official site for future updates.
