Sea of Remnants Shows Off New Gameplay, Closed Alpha Test Set for February 5

NetEase Games has released a brand-new gameplay trailer for Sea of Remnants, its upcoming ocean-fantasy open-world RPG developed by Joker Studio. Alongside the new footage, the publisher confirmed that the game’s first Closed Alpha Test, dubbed the Wanderer Test, will begin on February 5, 2026.

Sea of Remnants is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, with a full release planned for 2026.

A Pirate Tale Shaped by Choice

In Sea of Remnants, players take on the role of a puppetfolk sailor who awakens adrift at sea with no memories of their past. From there, the adventure unfolds across dangerous waters filled with strange creatures, rival factions, and hidden islands waiting to be explored.

At the heart of the experience is Orbtopia, a pirate city that evolves based on player decisions. Throughout the journey, players can recruit from over 300 companions, customize their fleet, and forge alliances that directly influence the world and its unfolding narrative.

Wanderer Test Closed Alpha Details

The newly announced Wanderer Test will run from February 5 through February 12, and will be available exclusively on PC. This small-scale Closed Alpha is highly limited, with only a select number of players invited to participate.

Interested players can apply now through January 23 by following the official Sea of Remnants X account and engaging with the designated post, or by joining the game’s official Discord and completing the application questionnaire. Additional questionnaires will also be available via platforms such as Steam and Reddit. Eligible applicants will be notified directly if selected for the test.

Key Features of Sea of Remnants

Sea of Remnants centers around freeform exploration and emergent storytelling. Players can sail across vast seas, explore distant islands, and return valuable treasures to Orbtopia. Combat plays a major role, with players commanding heavily armed ships to battle massive sea monsters ranging from cavern-dwelling beasts to cannon-wielding gorillas and treasure-hoarding giant crabs.

Beyond combat, the world is filled with surprises. From bustling city streets to untamed island settlements, players can stumble into duels, gamble in games of mahjong, or open doors that lead to unexpected encounters, reinforcing the game’s sense of discovery and replayability.

With a Closed Alpha just around the corner and more details likely to surface soon, Sea of Remnants is shaping up to be one of NetEase Games’ most ambitious RPG projects to date.
