Today, publisher Dotemu and developer The Game Kitchen dropped an extended look at Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, their upcoming 2D side-scrolling action-platformer that reimagines the legendary series with new characters, modern visuals, and intense boss fights. The 14-minute breakdown shows off a brand-new stage, boss encounter, and features like the game’s upgrade and ability systems, all narrated by the developers themselves.
New Blood, Same Razor-Edge Legacy
This showcase spotlights two new playable characters — Kenji and Kumori, ninjas from rival clans who must set aside their differences to face a growing demonic threat. Their latest mission sends them scaling an unfinished high-rise crawling with monsters and danger at every level. Players will need precise timing and swift reflexes to parry blows and counter deadly attacks in this fast-paced vertical gauntlet.
At the top of the tower is Rhyvashi, a brutal boss who stalks the pair with massive area-of-effect strikes. After a bulldozer chase sequence, the fight transitions to a claustrophobic underground arena where players must dodge her claw strikes, avoid spike traps, and manage electric projectiles while carving out moments to deal damage.
Talismans, Secret Arts, and Shop Systems
Alongside the slicing and dicing, the video highlights Ragebound’s layered progression systems. Players can purchase Talismans, passive buffs that enhance survivability, or unlock Secret Arts — powerful active skills that add flair and ferocity to combat. These systems allow for a degree of customization rarely seen in classic ninja action games, giving players options to fine-tune their preferred fighting style.
Developer Commentary Adds Context
Throughout the video, Ragebound’s creators from The Game Kitchen — including director David Jaumandreu, level designer Miguel Murat, and game designer Oriol Tartarin — walk players through the nuances of combat design, stage layout, enemy behaviors, and collectible systems.
Ragebound may be a new spin on the Ninja Gaiden name, but this latest gameplay drop makes it clear: the game isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to challenge, spectacle, or depth.
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound launches July 31 for PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
