Square Enix today revealed Octopath Traveler 0, coming December 4, 2025, to Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Windows.
A Fresh Start: Custom Protagonist & Rebuild Your Hometown
Positioned as a prequel to the original Octopath Traveler, this new entry begins before the saga and introduces an entirely customizable hero—a first for the series—whose journey revolves around restoring their devastated hometown in the world of Orsterra. The story unfolds around divine rings, revenge, and renewal.
Expanded Party Combat: Recruit Over 30 Characters, Fight with Eight at Once
Departing from the traditional eight fixed starting characters, Octopath Traveler 0 lets players recruit from more than 30 allies and field up to eight characters simultaneously in turn‑based battles. It feels like a crossover of Suikoden-style recruitment and Octopath turn‑based scale.
Core Features Revived—and Enhanced
Fans can look forward to familiar HD‑2D visuals, the signature Break & Boost battle system, and interactive Path Actions. The game also weaves in narrative threads and mechanics derived from Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, reimagined into this standalone adventure. Producer Hirohito Suzuki framed the concept as “an adventure of your own creation,” underscoring both character customization and town restoration as central themes
