Amazon Games has officially announced a Closed Alpha test for March of Giants, a free-to-play 4v4 War MOBA currently in early development. Testing will run from September 2–10, and players in the United States, Canada, and Mexico can now request access through the game’s Steam page.
Developed by Amazon Games Montreal, the project is spearheaded by Creative Director Xavier Marquis, best known for leading the team behind Rainbow Six Siege. Marquis and his team aim to bring their expertise in competitive PvP to the MOBA space with a bold twist: blending traditional lane-based strategy with the epic scale of large-scale war.
A War MOBA With Giants and Armies
Unlike traditional MOBAs, March of Giants emphasizes military themes and large-scale tactics. Players take control of towering Giants, massive war commanders who fight on the frontlines while commanding thousands of soldiers at their side.
According to Marquis, the team wanted to create something that combines “the strategic depth of MOBAs with innovative mechanics that let players command massive armies and deploy tactical structures.”
Key gameplay pillars include:
- Play as a Giant – Each Giant comes with unique abilities designed for 4v4 competitive battles.
- Lead Armies of Soldiers – Command vast numbers of NPC troops, rallying them for defense or directing them to overwhelm enemy lines.
- Deploy Battleworks – Construct tactical structures to counter opposing Giants, defend towers, and control the battlefield.
Closed Alpha Details
The September Closed Alpha will give participants a hands-on look at the game’s core loop and mechanics. Players will start with 10 Giants available and can unlock up to 15 in total throughout the playtest, each designed to reward tactical mastery and team coordination.
The test will be limited to PC, available in English only, and subject to a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Amazon Games plans to use the feedback from this first closed test to refine gameplay balance, improve technical stability, and prepare for larger-scale testing in future phases.
Looking Toward the Future
Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Games, expressed confidence in the Montreal team, calling Marquis’ vision “a fresh perspective on the MOBA genre.” With its mix of large-scale warfare, tactical depth, and co-op competition, March of Giants aims to stand apart in the crowded MOBA landscape.
Players interested in joining the test can request access on the March of Giants Steam page. Updates on future tests and global rollout will be available via the official website and community Discord.
