Sci-Fi Horror Routine Launching Late 2025 on Xbox & PC with Game Pass

Sci-fi horror fans won’t have to wait much longer to step into the shadows of the Moon. During Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, publisher Raw Fury and UK-based developer Lunar Software announced that Routine will launch in late 2025 on Xbox platforms and PC via Steam, including day one on Xbox Game Pass. Players can wishlist the game now and check out the new release window trailer, packed with fresh gameplay.

A Retro-Future Nightmare on the Moon

First revealed nearly a decade ago, Routine has grown into one of indie gaming’s most anticipated horror experiences. Set in a retro-analogue future inspired by 1980s technology, the game strands players on an abandoned lunar base. What was once a hub of human progress has gone eerily silent, leaving only derelict malls, collapsing living quarters, and the unnerving echoes of whatever still lurks there.

Players will investigate what happened to the base, but survival won’t come easily. Something inside is convinced that you are the threat. The deeper you explore, the more chilling truths you’ll uncover.

Gameplay Features

Routine is designed as a fully immersive survival horror experience, emphasizing atmosphere, tension, and player vulnerability. Key features include:

  • Investigate a retro-analogue future – Search across starkly different lunar sectors, from consumer spaces to decaying infrastructure.
  • Immersive design – Full-body awareness, diegetic audio, and minimal UI create a grounded horror experience.
  • Use the C.A.T. tool – The Cosmonaut Assistance Tool is your lifeline, giving access to terminals, navigation help, and hidden clues.
  • Survive the unknown – Evade, hide, or attempt to fight back with the C.A.T. as your last defense.

A Long-Awaited Indie Horror Vision

Routine is the debut project of Lunar Software, a three-person UK studio founded in 2010. After years of silence and reworking, the project resurfaced with a new trailer in 2022, instantly reigniting excitement among horror fans. Now, its release is finally in sight.

The game will be available late 2025 on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, with Game Pass support from day one.
