Vertigo Games, in collaboration with Maze Theory and Eidos-Montréal, has announced that Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow will launch on December 4, 2025, for PlayStation VR2, Meta Quest, and PC VR via Steam for $29.99. Pre-orders are now available across all platforms, offering a 10% discount ahead of release.
A Classic Reimagined for VR
For the first time in series history, Thief is stepping into virtual reality. Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow transports players to The City, a sprawling industrial metropolis ruled by the ruthless Baron Ulysses Northcrest. Players take on the role of Magpie, a streetwise thief who steals to survive until a fateful heist leads to the discovery of a mysterious artifact tied to the series’ long-forgotten past.
The new gameplay footage revealed during today’s showcase offers a glimpse into Thief VR’s tactile, first-person stealth experience.
Immersive Stealth, Reinvented
Built from the ground up for VR, Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow merges classic stealth gameplay with next-generation immersion. Players will use their hands and whole body to interact with the environment, picking locks, lifting purses, prying open hidden panels, and climbing rooftops in true first-person perspective.
The game also reintroduces Thief’s signature arsenal of tools and arrows, letting players distract guards, disarm traps, or take out enemies quietly from the shadows. Each mission offers multiple routes and playstyles, giving players freedom to choose between pure stealth or calculated chaos.
A Steampunk World of Secrets
Set in a dark, steampunk-inspired world, Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow combines the franchise’s signature atmosphere with the tangible presence VR offers. Every creak of a floorboard, flicker of candlelight, or whisper of a patrolling guard heightens the tension as players explore The City’s alleyways, rooftops, and secret chambers.
