The team’s willingness to experiment, avoid rigid role design, and show real respect for Marvel’s characters keeps players coming back. For our staff, Marvel Rivals remains exciting, earning it our Best Ongoing Game award.

Diego: As someone with a severe allergy to hero shooters, I’m shocked at how well Marvel Rivals has managed to hold my attention (Marvel bias aside) with its consistent updates of new maps and heroes that always look interesting enough to have me wanting to try even if I might not keep playing them. Plus, they gave me The Thing and made him one of the most fun characters to throw down and terrorize an enemy team with.
James: I played 1,000 hours of Overwatch, but the focus on balancing the game for eSports and shifting to 5v5 killed my love of the game. Fast forward, and a stylish replacement, filled with a fresh take on characters I love but have been burnt out on thanks to the MCU, and I’ve been in love with Marvel Rivals since. The character variety is incredible, not having a role queue allows for flexible team comps, and a steady cadence of new heroes keeps it fresh. I haven’t stopped playing Marvel Rivals since it was released, and I won’t be anytime soon.
Joe: Look, they actually made Daredevil blind. That’s a love for the character and a want to experiment you don’t usually see in AAA game,s let alone competitive hero shooters. In a world where game devs avoid ruffling feathers, I love that Rivals shakes up the game once a month.
