IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios have released the second episode of Beyond the Light, the developer diary series for 007 First Light. The episode offers a deeper look at the characters of the upcoming James Bond origin story and the creative team shaping them.
Set to launch on May 27, 2026, 007 First Light is a standalone, reimagined origin story of James Bond. The game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, with pre-orders now available.
Bringing Bond to Life
The latest episode of Beyond the Light focuses on character development, narrative design, and performance capture. Martin Emborg, Narrative and Cinematics Director at IO Interactive, and Beatrice Harty, Lead and Senior Character Artist, discuss how storytelling, cinematics, and character artistry intersect to create a grounded and authentic Bond experience.
From early concept sketches to final in-game performances, the diary explores how characters are written, designed, and realized to feel expressive and believable, while still honoring the legacy of the iconic franchise.
A New Cast for a New Bond Origin
The episode also features members of the principal cast, including Patrick Gibson as James Bond, Noemie Nakai as Agent Roth, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny, and Alastair McKenzie as Q.
Each actor shares insight into reinterpreting these well-known characters for a fresh origin story. Their performances aim to ground the narrative emotionally, shaping Bond’s early relationships and defining the world he is only just beginning to navigate.
With the second developer diary now live, anticipation continues to build ahead of the 007 First Light’s May release.
