Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Gets Extensive Free Demo Ahead of February Launch

Square Enix has released an extensive free demo for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, giving players the chance to dive into several hours of the classic JRPG remake ahead of its full launch on February 5, 2026. The demo is available now, and progress made will carry over directly into the full game upon release.

The remake is set to launch across Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store, letting fans begin their journey early, no matter their platform of choice.

Save Data Carryover and Exclusive Demo Bonus

Players who complete the demo and continue into the full game will be rewarded with an exclusive in-game cosmetic: the “Day Off Dress” for Maribel. This bonus outfit is only available to those who carry over their demo save, offering a small but stylish incentive for early adventurers.

Square Enix has also released two new trailers alongside the demo: an Opening Cinematic Trailer and a separate trailer showcasing what players can expect from the demo content itself.

A Classic Adventure, Reimagined for a New Generation

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined retells the sweeping story of a young hero and his childhood friends, whose peaceful island life is upended after discovering fragments of an ancient tablet that send them back through time. As sealed lands are restored piece by piece, the adventure grows into a high-stakes quest spanning eras and reshaping the fate of the world.

This remake modernizes the beloved 2000 original while staying faithful to its heart. Akira Toriyama’s iconic character designs have been rebuilt in a handcrafted 3D style, paired with diorama-inspired environments and dungeons. Optional side quests, minigames, and narrative enhancements help streamline the experience while adding new depth for longtime fans.

Revamped Combat and New Gameplay Systems

Combat in Dragon Quest VII Reimagined has been significantly updated, introducing new mechanics designed to add flexibility and excitement. Players can now take advantage of Moonlighting, which allows characters to use two vocations at once, alongside the powerful Let Loose ability for adrenaline-fueled moments in battle.

The remake also introduces a Monster Master vocation, enabling players to summon monsters to aid them in combat, expanding tactical options and party customization.
