Directive 8020 launches on May 12, 2026, coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The announcement was revealed alongside a chilling new pre-order trailer titled “Comply,” and confirmation that early purchasers will receive a free Deluxe Edition upgrade while supplies last.

Every Choice Has a Consequence
The newly released Comply trailer highlights the core philosophy driving Directive 8020’s narrative design: paranoia, mistrust, and irreversible decisions. Set aboard a doomed deep-space mission, the trailer centers on Cooper, the ship’s medic, as she’s forced to decide whether a crewmate sealed behind a door is still human or something far more dangerous.
In one harrowing scenario, Cooper must choose whether to release Mitchell despite not knowing if he has already been replaced by an alien mimic. Another branching moment introduces two identical versions of engineer Cernan rushing into view, forcing players to decide who lives and who dies. One wrong call will prove fatal, reinforcing the game’s central rule: trust no one.
A First Look at Planetary Exploration
For the first time in the Dark Pictures series, Directive 8020 also teases on-planet gameplay, showcasing the hostile alien world of Tau Ceti f. These sequences hint at expanded exploration beyond the claustrophobic interiors fans expect, blending environmental danger with psychological horror.

Completionists can track branching paths and uncover hidden endings, while players attached to specific characters can rewind fatal decisions to keep them alive. For those seeking the purest survival horror experience, Survivor Mode removes all safety nets; every death is permanent, just like classic Dark Pictures entries.
Pre-Order Bonuses and Deluxe Edition Content
Pre-ordering Directive 8020 grants a free Deluxe Edition upgrade, which includes a suite of cosmetic and collectible extras. Players will receive the Dark Pictures Outfit Pack, collectible content tied to the anthology, cinematic filter options, a digital soundtrack, and a digital artbook.
