Kena: Scars of Kosmora Announced for PS5 and PC, Expands Elemental Combat

Ember Lab has officially revealed Kena: Scars of Kosmora, the next chapter in the studio’s beloved action-adventure series. Coming to PlayStation 5 and PC in 2026, the sequel expands on the exploration, combat, and emotional storytelling that defined its award-winning predecessor, Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

In a new announcement from Ember Lab co-founder Josh Grier, the team confirmed that this new adventure follows a more experienced, renowned Kena as she journeys to a mysterious island in search of answers about a lifelong affliction.

A New Island, A Broken Staff, A New Path Forward

Set on the island of Kosmora, the sequel introduces players to a land filled with distinct regions, cultures, and buried secrets tied to a tragic past.

Early in the story, Kena encounters a powerful spirit that fractures her staff, a devastating blow for any Spirit Guide. More than just a weapon, the staff is her identity and a vital tool for communing with spirits. It has also been keeping her alive.

To survive, Kena must embrace Kosmora’s forgotten form of Spirit Guiding, which incorporates Alchemy to manipulate elemental forces. This shift forms the foundation of the sequel’s expanded combat and progression systems.

Elemental Spirits and Deeper Combat Strategy

Elemental Spirit Companions play a major role in Scars of Kosmora. These companions grow alongside Kena, unlocking new abilities as bonds deepen. Each Spirit is tied to a specific element and connected to others throughout the world, hinting at layered progression and exploration systems.

Combat has also evolved. Ember Lab is introducing new elemental infusions, expanded skill options, and more strategic encounters. Players will combine elemental abilities with Spirit Companions to overcome corrupted souls, challenging enemies, and large-scale boss fights.

The goal, according to the team, is to make players feel Kena’s growth not just narratively, but mechanically.

A Bigger World with PlayStation Studios Support

Ember Lab confirmed that partnering with PlayStation Studios has enabled the team to build a larger, more tightly designed world. The focus remains on deliberate progression and handcrafted regions, but on a broader scale than the first game.

While story details remain under wraps to avoid spoilers, the studio emphasized its commitment to delivering an emotional and heartfelt experience for both returning players and newcomers.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora launches in 2026 on PlayStation 5 and PC.
