NORSE: Oath of Blood Reveals Final Dev Diaries Before Feb. 17 Launch

Tripwire Presents and developer Arctic Hazard have released two final developer diaries for NORSE: Oath of Blood, offering a deeper look at the Viking-era turn-based tactical adventure before its PC launch on February 17.

Set in Dark Age Norway, the game arrives on Windows PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG, and these latest behind-the-scenes videos break down the worldbuilding and brutal combat that shape Gunnar’s journey of vengeance.

Developer Diary Two Focuses on Worldbuilding

The second developer diary centers on “Worldbuilding,” introducing players to the harsh beauty of Dark Age Norway and the characters who inhabit it.

The video highlights the actors and developers who helped bring the game’s cast to life, along with the technology used to create cinematic sequences and grounded, lived-in environments. From rugged wilderness to tense character moments, the team emphasizes immersion as a key pillar of the experience.

At the heart of the story is Gunnar, a young warrior seeking revenge after Steinarr Far-Spear murders his father, Jarl Gripr, and claims his high seat. Players will navigate a world shaped by betrayal, alliances, and the unforgiving realities of Viking life.

Developer Diary Three Breaks Down Battle and Combat

The third and final diary, “Battle and Combat,” dives into the design philosophy behind NORSE: Oath of Blood’s turn-based encounters.

Drawing from Viking warfare traditions, the development team built tactical systems that reflect the era’s brutality. Players will face wild beasts, bandits, and disciplined warriors capable of advanced tactics like forming shield walls. Adapting to each threat is essential, as no two encounters unfold the same way.

Beyond battlefield strategy, maintaining and upgrading Gunnar’s settlement is critical. Recruiting and equipping warriors ensures that even fresh fighters can enter combat ready, reinforcing the connection between base-building and tactical success.

Build Your Settlement, Forge Your Warband

In NORSE: Oath of Blood, players must rebuild from ruin, crafting a settlement, gathering allies, and training a warband capable of reclaiming honor. Every decision influences the path forward, whether forging alliances with rival clans or preparing for the next clash of steel.

The game is now available for digital pre-purchase. The Standard Edition is priced at $34.99, while the Special Edition ($44.99) includes the in-game Kievan War armor set and a unique Ulfberht sword. All PC pre-orders are discounted by 15% until launch and include Brokkr’s Bearded Axe, a powerful bonus weapon.

To further immerse fans in the Viking atmosphere, dark neo-folk band Galdorcræft contributes the single “LEGACY,” and players can also explore the official prequel short story, Sword Brothers, written by Giles Kristian.
