Tripwire Presents and developer Arctic Hazard have announced that NORSE: Oath of Blood, a Viking-era tactical turn-based RPG, will officially launch on February 3, 2026, for PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Alongside the release date, the team shared the first Developer Diary, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how the studio is building a gritty, grounded historical epic inspired by the sagas.
A First Look Behind the Shield Wall
The inaugural developer diary introduces key members of Arctic Hazard’s team, along with actor and writer Giles Kristian, as they explore the creative process behind crafting a playable Viking saga. Topics include:
- The use of full motion capture to anchor combat and cinematics in physical realism
- How the narrative blends authentic Dark Age history with an archetypal Viking tale of revenge
- The studio’s approach to capturing the atmosphere, desperation, and brutality of the era
The video highlights the team’s dedication to grounding NORSE in human stories rather than myth, while still delivering the sweeping atmosphere fans expect from Viking fiction.
A Brutal Viking Tale of Betrayal and Reclamation
Set in the rugged wilds of Dark Age Norway, NORSE: Oath of Blood follows Gunnar, a young warrior whose life is shattered when the treacherous Steinarr Far-Spear murders his father, Jarl Gripr, and seizes power. Gunnar’s path is clear: rebuild his clan, rally trusted allies, and rise to reclaim his family’s honor.
Across the campaign, players will:
- Build and manage a settlement, restoring it from ruin
- Recruit and train a loyal warband to stand alongside Gunnar
- Face rival clans, forged alliances, and harsh survival challenges
- Command tactical, turn-based battles that reward positioning, strategy, and adaptability
Every choice shapes Gunnar’s destiny, sculpting a story of revenge, leadership, and the heavy burden of reclaiming a legacy in a brutal world.
PC Demo Still Available
Players eager to test their mettle can still download the NORSE: Oath of Blood demo released during Steam Next Fest. The hands-on preview lets players take on Gunnar’s earliest battles and decisions, laying the foundation of his coming quest for vengeance.
