The United Citizen Federation has issued its next call to arms. Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War launches March 16, 2026, on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Published by Dotemu (Marvel Cosmic Invasion) and developed by Auroch Digital (Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun), the retro-inspired FPS brings explosive, Bug-splattering warfare back to the front lines.
Players eager to enlist can download the debut demo now on Steam ahead of its appearance in Steam Next Fest.
Return to Zegema Beach in the Playable Demo
The newly released demo drops recruits into the once-idyllic shores of Zegema Beach, now overrun by the relentless Arachnid threat. What was once a seaside paradise has become a full-scale warzone, as swarms of Bugs invade nearby military strongholds and civilian territory alike.
Armed with an over-the-top arsenal and devastating tactical strikes, players will exterminate the invasive species across open combat zones, getting a first taste of the game’s large-scale firefights and chaotic battlefield scenarios.
A new gameplay briefing trailer also offers a deeper look at the action, showcasing intense retro FPS combat rendered in a gloriously gory, 3D-pixelated style.
A New Hero in the First Bug War
Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War introduces an all-new single-player campaign centered on Major Samantha Dietz, voiced by Charlotta Mohlin (Immortality). Her wartime story unfolds 25 years earlier, during the First Bug War, as depicted in the 1997 film Starship Troopers.
Adding to the authenticity, General Johnny Rico, voiced by Casper Van Dien, delivers a message directly to players in the new trailer, setting the stage for Dietz’s campaign. The story follows her pursuit of the deadly Assassin Bug across iconic locations like Klendathu, Planet P, and beyond.
The campaign features:
- 14 weapons, including the legendary Morita rifle
- 11 Tactical Support Drops
- The M7 Razorback mechanical biped
- Massive Arachnid encounters ranging from flying terrors to towering tank-like monstrosities
Open Missions and Retro FPS Mayhem
Unlike strictly linear shooters, Ultimate Bug War offers open-area missions that let players chart their own path across large-scale battlefields. Objectives range from defending zones against overwhelming swarms to rescuing fellow soldiers and hunting down colossal Bugs.
Secrets, unlockable firepower, and pilotable mechs add replayability, while anti-Bug combat training prepares aspiring citizens for the horrors awaiting them.
Pre-orders for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 physical editions are now available at participating retailers.
