Mintrocket has shared new details on Bancho The Chef, the standalone Dave the Diver prequel starring the Blue Hole’s beloved sushi master.
Following its reveal during PlayStation State of Play, Bancho The Chef appeared during Mintrocket’s Dev Dive showcase, where Head of Studio Jaeho Hwang explained more about the game’s cooking, travel, and progression systems.
Bancho Before the Sushi Bar
Bancho The Chef takes place 19 years before Dave the Diver, back when Bancho was still learning his craft and, yes, still had hair.
The game follows Bancho as he travels across cities in Asia, studying seafood cuisine under local masters. Each region introduces a new chef, restaurant, cooking style, and set of ingredients for Bancho to learn.
Cook, Explore, and Learn
In each city, Bancho works in a local restaurant, prepares dishes for customers, and builds his skills through hands-on cooking.
Outside the kitchen, players will explore, gather ingredients, and study local food culture. Once Bancho masters a region’s style, he takes part in a local challenge before moving on to the next destination.
That loop gives the prequel a mix of cooking sim, adventure, and character growth as players watch Bancho become the chef fans know from Dave the Diver.
DualSense Cooking Features
Mintrocket confirmed PlayStation 5 and PC as the main platforms announced so far.
On PS5, Bancho The Chef will use DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to make cooking actions feel more tactile, from preparing ingredients to handling different techniques in the kitchen.
Mintrocket plans to share more gameplay and launch details in the coming months.
