Swords of Legends Shows New Combat Gameplay at Summer Game Fest 2026

Aurogon Shanghai has shared a new combat-focused trailer for Swords of Legends, its upcoming single-player action-adventure RPG coming to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

Revealed during Summer Game Fest 2026, the trailer offers a closer look at the game’s fast combat, boss design, and Spirit Companion system.

Face the Master of Cantrip

The new trailer highlights a boss fight against Kong Kong Zi, also known as the Master of Cantrip.

The theatrical enemy uses moves inspired by Traditional Chinese Conjuring, a form of close-up stage magic with deep cultural roots. Rather than inventing the boss from scratch, Aurogon Shanghai built the character around a real performance tradition, giving the fight a distinct rhythm and visual style.

Spirit Companions Join the Fight

The trailer also reveals the Spirit Companion system.

Players can bring a soul from the spirit realm into battle, letting it fight beside them, intercept damage, and join in linked finishers. The first companion shown is the Ox, a spectral horned traveler from the netherworld.

The system ties directly into the game’s larger story, in which defeated souls may later fight alongside the player once their burdens are understood and laid to rest.

A Mythic World Inspired by Chinese Literature

Swords of Legends is the official sequel to the Gujian series and takes place in a primordial age inspired by classical Chinese literature.

Players take on the role of a Sipan, an Arbiter of the Underworld returned to the mortal realm by the Judge of King Yama. Their task is to seek out lost souls who cannot find their way home.

The world draws on Chinese mythology and texts such as The Classic of Mountains and Seas, in which gods, demons, ghosts, spirits, and mortals share the same land.

Combat Built Around Weapons, Spirits, and Weaknesses

As an Arbiter of the Underworld, players can use mystical techniques, summon spirit creatures, and wield multiple weapon types.

Each weapon has its own playstyle, while enemies require players to identify weaknesses and combine abilities to survive. Combat blends action RPG systems with cinematic presentation and mythological enemy design.

Swords of Legends is in development for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. A release date has not yet been announced.
