Afterworld Revealed as Paradox’s Post-Apocalyptic Strategy Game

Paradox Interactive has announced Afterworld, a post-apocalyptic grand strategy game from Paradox Development Studio coming soon to PC.

Revealed during gamescom Opening Night Live, the game marks Paradox Development Studio’s first original non-historical setting in a decade.

Rebuild From the Ruins

Afterworld takes place in a procedurally generated North America after civilization has collapsed.

Players will guide survivors from small beginnings into a larger society, dealing with food, water, shelter, fuel, hazardous terrain, old ruins, and rival groups along the way.

Origins Shape Your Tribe

Players can begin as shelterfolk leaving a failing nuclear bunker, zealots searching the dustlands for their goddess, or other playable Origins.

From there, they will build settlements, define laws, decide who gets limited resources, and choose what kind of nation rises from the ashes.

Technology Comes From What You Find

Afterworld uses a dynamic Ideas Tree that changes based on what players encounter.

Find a river, and irrigation can become part of your society. Meet another tribe, and organized religion may enter the picture. Each run changes based on the map, threats, resources, and choices players make.

Diplomacy, War, and Collapse

Players can trade with rival bands, absorb wandering tribes, form alliances, raid enemies, or go to war for control of key resources.

The game also includes competitive multiplayer and co-op, letting players build or break nations with others.

Ancient Powers Still Remain

Afterworld also brings in the Ancients, immortal leaders from before the Fall who survived through forgotten technology.

They have their own plans for control, forcing players to decide how much of the old society should return and what must stay buried.

Afterworld is coming soon to PC platforms, with wishlisting available now on Steam.
