Amplitude Studios has announced Humankind 2, the sequel to its 2021 historical turn-based strategy game, during gamescom Opening Night Live.
The game is planned to launch for PC in 2027.
Rewrite History Across the Ages
Humankind 2 lets players lead a civilization from early settlements to the Modern Age.
Players will found cities, develop technology, form alliances, command armies, and shape their culture as each era changes the map and their people.
Culture Gets a Deeper Role
The sequel expands the culture system from the first Humankind.
With each new era, players can adopt a culture that adds to their civilization’s identity. New cultural progression trees will open exclusive customs, giving players more control over how their empire changes over time.
Amplitude also teased new historical cultures, including the Saqqaq, Etruscans, and Scythians.
Climate Changes the Strategy Map
Humankind 2 will also add a shifting climate system.
Players will need to adapt cities and economies to changing biomes, protect resources, and weigh fast growth against long-term consequences that can carry across generations.
Built With Community Feedback
Amplitude says Humankind 2 draws on player feedback and the studio’s 15 years of strategy game experience.
The sequel will include new progression systems, updated visuals, a modernized UI, and gameplay changes. The studio will also continue sharing development updates through its Amplifiers community platform.
Coming to PC in 2027
Humankind 2 is planned for release on PC via Steam in 2027.
Amplitude has also released a Humankind five-year celebration video, while the original game is on sale for 90% off on Steam through September 8, 2026.
