505 Games and ArtPlay have released a new Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement gameplay trailer, offering the longest look yet at the upcoming prequel to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.
Shown during the Xbox Showcase at Tokyo Game Show, the footage highlights new characters, enemies, environments, and mechanics ahead of the game’s planned 2027 release.
Leonard and Alex Take the Lead
Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement follows two new protagonists, Leonard and Alex, in 16th-century England.
A mysterious floating castle controlled by Elias has appeared over the land, with demonic forces terrorizing its citizens.
Leonard and Alex set out to stop Elias and break his hold over the kingdom.
New Gameplay Systems Shown
The latest trailer shows more of the game’s combat, exploration, and progression systems.
Players will fight through a 2.5D gothic setting while taking on enemies, crafting equipment, and gaining access to new areas as their abilities expand.
The footage also provides an early look at several mechanics not previously shown.
A Prequel to Ritual of the Night
The Scarlet Engagement takes place before the events of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night and explores an earlier chapter in the series.
Koji Igarashi continues to oversee the project, with ArtPlay building on the search-action structure and combat systems established by the previous game.
Coming in 2027
Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
