Mojang Studios has outlined several upcoming Minecraft projects, including new Minecraft Dungeons II details, The Sift dimension for Java and Bedrock Edition, ice caves, Sound Effects Packs, and an October 27 Nintendo Switch 2 release.
Minecraft Dungeons II arrives first on September 29, 2026, while several of the larger Minecraft additions are planned for 2027.
Minecraft Dungeons II Heads Into The Sift
Minecraft Dungeons II expands its predecessor with a larger interconnected map, additional combat and customization systems, and new exploration and multiplayer options.
A major part of the sequel is The Sift, a mysterious dimension with its own environments, inhabitants, hazards, and gameplay mechanics.
The development team will also discuss how it approached creating a completely new dimension within Minecraft.
The Sift Comes to Minecraft in 2027
The Sift will not remain exclusive to Minecraft Dungeons II.
Mojang plans to add the dimension to Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition in 2027.
It will become Minecraft’s fourth dimension alongside the Overworld, Nether, and End, and the first new one added in more than 14 years.
Ice Caves Are Coming in the Next Game Drop
Minecraft’s next game drop will introduce ice caves, a rare underground extension of cold biomes.
These areas contain glowing ice crystals, which players can place vertically or horizontally and use as light sources.
A new Frozen Zombie will also appear inside the caves. Its melee attacks apply a stacking freezing effect, while ranged ice balls deal damage and knock players backward.
Regular zombies can turn into Frozen Zombies after exposure to powder snow.
Frozen Zombies drop ice balls, which players can use as weapons or as ingredients for a new potion that can freeze other players.
Minecraft Comes to Nintendo Switch 2 in October
Minecraft will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026.
Mojang says the version will support upgraded visuals, though it did not provide additional technical details in the announcement.
Sound Effects Packs Coming to Marketplace
Minecraft Marketplace will add Sound Effects Packs later in 2026.
The packs will give players another way to customize their creations and experiences through audio.
Chief Creative Officer Jens Bergenström will also introduce a new creator platform initiative intended to expand the tools available to Minecraft creators.
Minecraft Hotel and Rollercoaster Planned for 2027
Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios also shared more information about Minecraft World, the upcoming attraction at Chessington World of Adventures Resort.
The project will include what the companies describe as the first Minecraft hotel alongside the franchise’s first rollercoaster, named Escape the Nether.
Both are planned to open in 2027.
Wilderness Bound Community Challenge Continues
The Wilderness Bound community challenge began September 15.
Players can earn Character Creator items and Java skins by placing cushions and straw beds in-game, with additional details planned following the presentation.
Minecraft Dungeons II launches September 29, 2026, while Minecraft arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27. The Sift and Minecraft World attractions are planned for 2027.
