Capcom has announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold over 1 million units on launch day, pushing total Onimusha series sales past 10 million.
The milestone comes as the series returns with its first new entry in over 20 years.
Musashi Leads the Return
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a swordplay action game starring Miyamoto Musashi.
Set in Edo-era Kyoto, the game builds on the series’ sword-based combat with modern tech, a new story, and updated visual detail.
Demos Helped Build Awareness
Capcom pointed to several pre-launch marketing efforts behind the game’s strong start.
Those included multiple demo releases and hands-on events, which helped bring the long-running series back in front of players ahead of release.
Onimusha Passes 10 Million
With the launch of Way of the Sword, total Onimusha series sales have now surpassed 10 million units.
Capcom also said it will keep bringing back IPs that have gone without new releases, using its catalog as part of its broader game strategy.
Out Now
Onimusha: Way of the Sword launched September 4, 2026.
The game is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
