Marvelous has released an English-subtitled “Special Discussion” video series for Eternal Anima, featuring director Katsuhisa Higuchi and guests including Hironobu Sakaguchi and Nobuo Uematsu. The conversations explore the RPG’s themes of legacy, its time-travel story, combat systems, and music.
Eternal Anima launches March 4, 2027, on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
Higuchi and Sakaguchi Discuss Time Travel and JRPG Design
The first installment reunites Higuchi with Mistwalker founder Hironobu Sakaguchi, drawing on their years of developing JRPGs together. Their discussion ranges from their approach to the genre to smaller design decisions, including what players find inside treasure chests.
The episode also examines how the team approached time travel without creating paradoxes. Protagonist Wade’s Psychometry ability lets him read memories held within artifacts and inherit abilities and classes from past heroes.
Combat uses the Future Sight Battle system, which allows players to predict enemy actions and issue commands that delay or cancel incoming moves.
Sakimoto and Uematsu Talk About the Score
The second installment features Basiscape’s music producer, Hitoshi Sakimoto, and guest composer Nobuo Uematsu. They discuss musical expression, the challenges of composing for JRPGs, and their hopes for the next generation of composers.
Those ideas connect to Eternal Anima’s story, which brings ancestors and descendants together across different eras and explores how past actions affect the present.
