Pirates Republic Reveals Ship Building, Unreal Engine 5 Move, and Alpha Plans

Pirates Republic has a new trailer as Golden Hind Games regains the rights to its pirate survival sandbox. The studio is moving development to Unreal Engine 5 and plans to open alpha testing to members of its Discord community.

Playable solo or in online co-op, the game puts you in the shoes of a shipwrecked survivor in the Caribbean in 1714. Before becoming a captain, you’ll need to find food, craft tools, recover materials, and reunite your scattered crew.

Build a Settlement and Design Your Own Ship

Construction lets you place walls, floors, roofs, and furniture piece by piece as you establish a settlement.

Shipbuilding follows a modular approach, with hull shape, mast configuration, deck layout, and oar capacity affecting speed, durability, and combat performance. Golden Hind Games says the system supports more than 100 vessel configurations, ranging from canoes to armed frigates.

You can equip ships with dozens of weapon types, including swivel guns and heavy cannons, then position your vessel to deliver broadsides against enemy crews.

Keep Your Crew Happy—or Risk Being Marooned

As your Fame grows, Nassau attracts NPCs with procedurally generated appearances, backstories, skills, and personalities.

You can build relationships, recruit crew members, and romance allies while managing a democratic society. Your people expect fair shares and effective leadership. Fail to provide them, and they can leave you stranded on a desert island.

Aggressive plundering brings another danger: royal fleets from England and Spain. Fortifying Nassau becomes part of protecting what you’ve built.

Boarding Battles and Alpha Testing Plans

Combat includes boarding enemy ships and fighting with swords, axes, and improvised weapons. Flintlock pistols and muskets provide ranged options, while naval engagements extend to defending Nassau against large-scale assaults.

Golden Hind Games has not announced a release date or an alpha testing schedule.
