Rockbeasts is tuning up for a January 2027 release. Developer and publisher Lichthund and publishing partner Critical Role announced the launch window during the Triple-i Initiative, along with a free Steam demo and three new voice cast members.
Critical Role’s Matthew Mercer, Sam Riegel, and Liam O’Brien will voice key characters, joining previously announced cast member Iggy Pop. More casting announcements are planned before launch.
Free Steam Demo Includes Two Episodes
The Rockbeasts demo is available now on Steam and covers the game’s first two episodes. A third episode will arrive during Steam Next Fest, expanding the preview of your band’s climb from garage gigs toward larger stages.
The full game is planned for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Manage a Grunge Band’s Gigs, Resources, and Egos
Set in an alternative 1990s America populated by anthropomorphic characters, Rockbeasts puts you in charge of an up-and-coming grunge band.
You’ll book gigs, schedule rehearsals, manage limited resources, and handle clashing personalities. Your decisions affect the band’s relationships, reputation, and future, forcing you to balance its creative ambitions against the compromises of the music business.
The story focuses on misfits trying to succeed without losing the reasons they started making music.
A ’90s-Inspired Soundtrack and Story
Narrative director Jakub Szamałek, whose credits include The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, and The Blood of Dawnwalker, wrote the game’s story.
Its hand-drawn visuals draw inspiration from the MTV era, while the soundtrack features 17 original full-length songs influenced by ’90s alternative rock. Rockbeasts previously won Excellence in Audio at the DevGamm Awards and received a Best Audio nomination at gamescom.
Rockbeasts launches in January 2027, with its free two-episode Steam demo available now.
