Village in the Shade has surpassed 250,000 sales in Japan ahead of its North American and European launch. NIS America shared the milestone alongside a new soundtrack video and a content roadmap covering free updates and DLC planned for Spring 2027.
The hand-painted farming sim takes you to Kagatsu, a Japanese mountain village where growing crops and befriending neighbors comes with a few suspicious rules.
Sounds from the Shade Includes 38 Tracks
The original soundtrack, Sounds from the Shade, features 38 songs across two discs and comes with every Limited Edition package.
NIS America’s new soundtrack video offers a sample of the music accompanying life in Kagatsu, from countryside routines to its less welcoming encounters.
Free Updates and Spring 2027 DLC Planned
At launch, Village in the Shade will receive two free patch updates. Planned additions include furniture, livestock, and catalog features, farmland expansion, and a birthday event for the protagonist.
The Spring 2027 DLC will introduce additional scenarios, new gameplay systems, standalone events, and new maps. NIS America has not detailed those additions further in this announcement.
Follow the Rules—or Investigate Kagatsu’s Secrets
Life in Kagatsu lets you plant crops, decorate your home, craft fences, and spend time with your neighbors. Seasonal activities include a summer festival and cherry-blossom viewing.
The village asks you to follow three rules: don’t talk to strangers, don’t leave, and don’t go out at night. Breaking them means risking an encounter with the town’s darker side.
If you prefer farming without the scares, Village in the Sunshine mode prevents you from breaking those rules. You can farm, hunt, and fish at your own pace while keeping to the quieter side of village life.
Limited Edition Preorders Are Available
The Village in the Shade Limited Edition is available to preorder for $89.99.
It includes the game, a collector’s box, an art book, the two-disc soundtrack, an acrylic block, and a set of metal pins.
