Thousand Generation and Chromatic Dream have announced that Taste of Heaven is targeting an early 2027 release on Steam. The fantasy cooking RPG appeared during the Women Led Games Showcase as part of Summer Game Fest 2026, where a new gameplay trailer showed more of its divine kitchens, afterlife setting, and relationship systems.
A demo is available now on Steam and currently sits at 100% positive user reviews.
Cook for Gods in the Afterlife
Taste of Heaven puts players in the role of an itinerant chef serving gods, godlings, and wandering souls in the birthplace of the universe.
The game mixes cooking, RPG progression, and roguelite structure, with each run built around different ingredients, items, perks, secrets, and events. Players will need to serve waves of demanding celestial customers, each with their own personality and challenges.
Mistakes can carry real consequences. Customers may leave hungry, fight back, or steal someone else’s dish if service goes wrong.
A Recipe System Built for Experimentation
The core cooking system encourages players to use available tools and ingredients creatively rather than follow one fixed solution.
Each run changes through random rewards and challenges, giving players new ways to prepare dishes, handle customer demands, and progress deeper into the afterlife.
Chromatic Dream says Taste of Heaven was inspired by the magic of films like Spirited Away, with the team aiming to create a strange, colorful setting filled with food, spirits, and secrets.
Befriend Gods, Spirits, and Lost Souls
Taste of Heaven also includes relationship-building systems.
Players can meet gods, unusual creatures, and souls carrying unresolved problems. By spending time with them, sharing meals, and helping them, players can deepen bonds. The studio also teases that romance may be part of the menu.
Build a Ryokan Inside a Giant Fish
Outside of cooking runs, players can gather resources and build a ryokan inside the belly of a giant fish.
Travelers will stop by, offering help, stories, and new ways to expand the player’s peaceful base within the void.
Explore a 2D Fantasy World
The game features a hand-crafted 2D afterlife where players can trade with merchants, gather ingredients, encounter rare events, and gradually solve the mysteries of the land.
Chromatic Dream is a French two-person team focused on story-driven games with inventive mechanics, while Thousand Generation is a UK-based indie publisher formed by industry veterans.
Taste of Heaven is planned for release on Steam in early 2027.
