Akupara Games and Indonesian developer Mankibo have announced that Montabi will launch on August 6 for PC and Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
The release date was revealed during the Summer Game Fest SEA Games Showcase alongside a new trailer featuring “The Montarap,” a hip-hop introduction to the game’s creature roster.
Players can try the game now through a Steam demo, with an updated version scheduled to arrive on June 15 as part of Steam Next Fest.
A Creature Collector Meets Roguelike Deckbuilder
Montabi combines monster collecting, deckbuilding, and roguelike progression in a city under siege by the mysterious X-Gang.
Players recruit and tame Montabi, building teams of creatures with unique abilities and card pools. Every Montabi offers different strategic options, creating countless combinations for deck synergies and combat approaches.
Equipment and charms can also be collected throughout each run, helping players customize their team even further.
Tactical Battles on a 3×3 Grid
Combat takes place on a tactical 3×3 battlefield where positioning matters as much as card selection.
Each Montabi has its own skills and abilities, encouraging players to experiment with different lineups and strategies. Trainers also play an active role during battles, with each one offering a different playstyle.
Some trainers focus on positioning, others excel in direct combat, while some provide support through buffs and healing. If a trainer falls in battle, the run ends immediately.
Evolve and Grow Stronger
As Montabi gain experience, they evolve into stronger forms and unlock new cards.
These evolutions expand a creature’s tactical options and allow players to build increasingly powerful decks throughout a run. With more than 500 cards available and 22 different starter evolutionary lines, no two runs are expected to play the same way.

Players interested in trying Montabi before launch can download the current demo on Steam.
A larger updated demo will arrive on June 15 during Steam Next Fest, offering another chance to explore the creature-collecting roguelike before its full release.
