Studio MDHR had a pair of surprises for fans during Summer Game Fest 2026, confirming that a brand-new Cuphead game is officially in development while also unveiling a retro side project called Mighty Cuphead Adventure.
The announcements arrived through a special presentation from the studio, marking the first official confirmation of a new major Cuphead game since The Delicious Last Course expansion.
A New Cuphead Adventure Is in Development
Studio MDHR confirmed that development has begun on an entirely new Cuphead game.
Details remain scarce, as the project is still in the earliest stages of production, but the studio says the game will feature the same beloved characters in a completely new adventure.
No platforms, release window, or gameplay details have been announced.
According to Studio MDHR co-founder Chad Moldenhauer, craftsmanship remains central to the studio’s approach, with the team planning to share more information at a later date.
Meet Mighty Cuphead Adventure
While the next major Cuphead game is still years away, Studio MDHR revealed another project much closer to release.
Mighty Cuphead Adventure is an 8-bit action platformer inspired by classic games of the 1980s. Rather than simply recreating the look of retro games, Studio MDHR has gone a step further by developing the title in classic Assembly Language and designing it around the Sega Master System’s hardware specifications.
Built for Retro Hardware
The game will be playable on modern platforms, but Studio MDHR is also planning a physical cartridge release for the original Sega Master System.
The project is being developed by a smaller internal team and serves as a love letter to the era of classic 8-bit platformers.
While gameplay details remain limited, the reveal suggests a more traditional action-platforming experience than the run-and-gun boss battles that defined Cuphead.
More Details Coming Soon
Studio MDHR says it will share additional information about Mighty Cuphead Adventure in the coming months through its official channels.
As for the newly announced Cuphead project, fans may have to wait a bit longer before learning exactly where Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice are headed next.
