Milktooth has revealed Bad Magpie, a chaotic narrative adventure coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, Xbox on PC, and Steam in 2027.
The UK-based studio debuted the game during the Xbox Games Showcase, introducing players to a one-winged magpie with a missing flock, a love of shiny trinkets, and an obsession with a fallen star.
Steal, Peck, and Meddle
Bad Magpie puts players in control of a mischievous bird exploring a small, dense, non-linear open world.
After being abandoned by her flock, the magpie sets out to gather trinkets in hopes of winning over a fallen star. Along the way, players can steal objects, combine items, peck at anything suspicious, and interfere with the world in whatever way seems funniest.
Cartoon Logic Drives the Chaos
Bad Magpie leans into elastic puzzle design.
Players might shatter glass by screeching into a megaphone or start a fire by pecking flint. Every puzzle has multiple solutions, rewarding curiosity and experimentation as players test how far the game’s cartoon logic can bend.
A Mystery Behind the Mischief
While Bad Magpie has plenty of comedy, there is also a larger mystery driving the story.
The magpie is haunted by a strange vision, raising questions about what it means, why it has appeared, and how long the fallen star will keep her distracted from it.
A New Studio With Familiar Talent
Milktooth was founded by artist Catherine Unger, designer Daisy Fernandez, and developer George Batchelor, whose credits include Tangle Tower, Card Shark, As Dusk Falls, Bird Alone, South of the Circle, and Gibbon: Beyond the Trees.
The studio is developing Bad Magpie with support from WINGS and the UK Games Fund. The game is also an official selection for the 2026 Tribeca Games Festival.
Bad Magpie launches in 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, Xbox on PC, and Steam.
