Tears of Metal is heading to Early Access on July 22 for Steam and the Microsoft Store, developer Paper Cult has announced.
The medieval hack-and-slash co-op roguelike will also be available through Xbox Game Pass on the Microsoft Store. An Xbox console version is planned to arrive before the end of 2026.
Reclaim Your Island
Tears of Metal sends players into battle as part of a Scottish battalion fighting to take back their island after the Dragon Stone Meteor brings enemy forces to their home.
Players can cut through massive enemy groups solo or with friends, pushing deeper across war-torn battlefields while learning more about the strange power behind the meteor and the invasion.
What’s in Early Access
The Early Access release will include three acts, each with its own enemies, Elites, and bosses. Players will also have access to three playable heroes, village upgrades, Emblems, equipment, companions, and more systems planned for future updates.
Paper Cult says Tears of Metal has passed 400,000 Steam wishlists since its reveal at Summer Game Fest in 2024.
Build Your Battalion
Between runs, players can improve their soldiers, recruit new troops, and expand their settlement. Those upgrades open access to shops, permanent improvements, harder challenges, and stronger rewards.
Combat centers on combining powers with more than 100 artifacts, letting players create new builds across each attempt. Special objectives can also lead to new artifacts, characters, cosmetics, upgrades, and combos.
Solo or Co-Op Carnage
Tears of Metal will feature more than 45 handcrafted environments, with changing objectives and scenarios across campaigns.
Players can fight alone or invite friends to join the campaign, making each push across the island feel different depending on the hero, army upgrades, and artifact combinations in play.
