NIS America has announced that Village in the Shade will launch on October 27 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC.
The hand-painted spooky farming sim arrives just ahead of Halloween, sending players to Kagatsu, a Japanese mountain village where cozy daily life comes with a few rules you may not want to break.
Farm, Decorate, and Meet the Locals
Village in the Shade lets players plant crops, customize their home, craft fences, gather resources, fish, hunt, and get to know the villagers.
There are also traditional Japanese festivals and seasonal activities, including a summer festival and cherry-blossom viewing.
Follow the Rules
Kagatsu may look peaceful, but the village carries warnings.
Players are told not to talk to strangers, not to leave the village, and not to go out at night. Breaking those rules appears to lead into the game’s darker side, with secrets waiting for players who choose to push past the calm surface.
Sunshine Mode Offers a Safer Route
NIS America also revealed a “Village in the Sunshine” version of the trailer, highlighting a mode for players who want the farming sim without the horror.
In Sunshine mode, players cannot break the rules, letting them focus on countryside living, farming, hunting, fishing, and relaxing around Kagatsu.
Limited Edition Available
A Limited Edition of Village in the Shade is available to pre-order for $89.99.
It includes the game, collector’s box, art book, original soundtrack, acrylic block, and a set of metal pins.
