1998: The Toll Keeper Story Comes to PS5 With DualSense Haptics

GameChanger Studio has launched 1998: The Toll Keeper Story on PlayStation 5, bringing the narrative simulation game to console with DualSense haptic feedback.

The Indonesian indie game places players in the booth of Dewi, a pregnant toll keeper working night shifts as the surrounding country falls into unrest.

A Toll Booth During a National Crisis

1998: The Toll Keeper Story takes place in a fictional Southeast Asian nation, drawing from the 1998 Asian financial crisis and the unrest that followed across Indonesia and nearby countries.

Dewi shares shifts with her colleague Sinta, while her husband, Heru, drives a taxi to help them get by. Each night, she checks vehicles, documents, and payments while facing choices that can affect desperate people outside her booth and her own family.

Rules, Forgeries, and Moral Calls

Gameplay centers on checking IDs, matching documents, spotting forgeries, and responding to changing state rules.

The pressure comes from the people behind the paperwork. Players must decide when to follow orders, when to bend the rules, and how much risk Dewi can take while trying to protect herself and her unborn child.

DualSense Features on PS5

The PS5 version adds DualSense haptic feedback tied to the vehicles passing through Dewi’s toll lane.

Cars, trucks, and taxis each create different feedback through the controller, adding another layer to the booth work and serving as gameplay clues during shifts.
